Dalnaglar
Castle and Estate Dalnaglar Castle is set on a beautiful naturally elevated site in the heart of Glenshee, which is known locally as 'The Fairy Glen'. Originally a 16th century hunting lodge, Dalnaglar Castle was commissioned by Lord Clyde, Queen Victoria's banker, and designed by Her Majesty's architect from Balmoral. Dalnaglar Castle has recently been extensively refurbished to provide the comfort of 21st century technology whilst retaining the character of a stately home. Dalnaglar has 10 well-appointed en-suite double/twin bedrooms, as well as modernised accommodation within the Castle grounds for a further 18 visitors. Lickleyhead Castle, Insch, Aberdeenshire A little to the south of the village of Auchleven stands Lickleyhead. The oldest part of the castle dates back to 1499 and was added to and improved in 1629 by John Forbes of Leslie. This castle of great charm and considerable importance is an unspoilt example of a chateau-mansion with impressive corbelled turrets and scrolled dormers. The Great Hall is now an attractive drawing room and the huge open fireplace retains all its original features.
